This is the first time I looked at the Twitter website. I viewed the "Twitter in Plain English" video, and it gave me an idea of what it is. It seems to be something between an email and a blog, but I'm still not sure in what instances I would actually use it myself.

You're right -- it IS a cross between a blog and an email -- it's what's called a "microblog," and many people report that they have no use for it. But it does have applications -- like when you have a general (short) message for a large group of people.
